Information

Situated on a stunning rural property with views of the Hudson River and the mountains beyond, Sydney Maag originally conceived Windy Cottage as a simple setting for cocktails, an ideal place to take in the sunset beside a fire pit. Once the owner began to use the space as an evening retreat, they fell in love with it and asked Sydney to transform it into a more functional guest annex.

She introduced a kitchenette and raised the ceiling to create a greater sense of openness while preserving the cottage’s rustic character by maintaining the original stone fireplace as a central focal point. Located on the Garrison Farmhouse property, the outbuilding lacked space for guest essentials; Sydney addressed this by incorporating chic, multi-functional furniture that discreetly accommodated storage needs. The result is a cozy, inviting retreat for visitors - one that the owners themselves enjoy as well.
